Paul Caponigro
Paul Caponigro is Boston born photographer, who is particularly well known for his landscape photography. The artist also had a great passion for the musical arts, as he attended Boston University and studied the piano. While music was a major element in Caponigro's life, photography was where his true passion led him. After being drafted in 1953, Caponigro was stationed in San Francisco, where he worked as a photographer. While in San Francisco, he studied with Benjamen Chinn. Caponigro additionally studied under the great Minor White. The artist uses traditional materials and utilizes dark room techniques to create his photography. Caponigro has a true talent for capturing nature, which is why I find him to be such an inspiration in my work.
"At the root of creativity is an impulse to understand, to make sense of random and often unrelated details. For me photography provides an intersection of time, space, light, and emotional stance. One needs to be still enough, observant enough, and aware enough to recognize the life of the materials, to be able to 'hear through the eyes'."
