Seeing the World Through a Lens
Photography was never a large part of my life, aside from documenting major life events, like graduation and prom. After taking an introductory photography course, I see that photography is for so much more than that. I now realize the true beauty in photography, the beauty that captures a perfect moment in time. Now I see the world through the lens of a camera.
After growing up in a rural community in upstate New York, nature has always been a central element in my life. The mountains, the trees, and the environment around me serve as my inspiration. In the fast paced world we live in, we too often forget to take a moment and notice the beauty in our world. Photography allows me to take the time to appreciate my surroundings.
When photographing I try to find natural elements or man-made objects that are inspired by natural objects. Being in touch with the natural environment around me reminds me of my home and the comfort I always feel when I am back there. I try to see the subjects of my photographs in different ways, not always taking photographs with traditional framing. I feel that with some subjects, photographs can be more interesting if they are not taken ‘perfectly.’
As I continue on with my journey seeing the world through a lens, I hope to develop my skills further, and above all capture beautiful moments in the world.
